Our history
Meet André Citroën — founder of the world-famous car brand and the great-grandson of Roelof Citroen. Roelof was a Dutchman who chose the surname 'Citroen' after being dubbed "The Lemonman" by his neighbors, a nod to his background as a fruit trader.
We cherish this small piece of history and pay homage to the Citroen family of Amsterdam through our cocktail bar appropriately named ‘The Lemonman’
Our location
The Lemonman is situated in a historic building in Oud-Zuid that was originally constructed as a car garage for André Citroën. This architectural gem was designed by Jans Wils, a renowned Dutch architect responsible for designing not only the Citroën garage but also the iconic Amsterdam Olympic Stadium, which hosted the 1928 Summer Olympics and is located right next door.
Every time you come to The Lemonman for an after-work drink or a private event, you do so in a place that has been deeply rooted in Amsterdam’s rich history for over a century.

From classic favorites to innovative new creations — such as our citrus-based namesake, The Lemonman — our bartenders use top-shelf spirits and the finest ingredients from around the Mediterranean to create drinks that are as delicious as they are original.

The Lemonman was designed to showcase a distinct blend of Tel Avivian architecture, 1930s automotive design, and vibrant yellow accents inspired by our citrus theme.
These elements, combined with warm lighting and vintage leather seating, result in a sophisticated and inviting atmosphere that is ideal for relaxing with an after-work cocktail, catching up with friends and family, or hosting a productive business meeting.
